Norse Helm of Awe “Aegishjalmr” Sterling Silver Viking Ring

The Norse Helm of Awe, Aegishjalmr, is one of the most mysterious and powerful symbols in Norse mythology. This sterling silver ring shaped like the Helm reaches 3/4ths of an inch high and has a width of 1/4th an inch wide. The side that forms its front displays two overlapping animal horns that meet at their tips to form a stylized arch with raven-like head motifs on them. Above this design is five rows with three runes each – which may represent Odin’s own name cloaked in the 5 letters enclosed by his 8-legged Raven’s wings so as not to give information about him away to enemies who capture Odhinn while he wears it on his person.

Details Concerning Viking Jewellery

Vikings have been Scandinavian maritime warriors and merchants who plundered, traded, explored, and recognized from the late eighth to late eleventh century. These Norsemen (or Northmen) traveled as far east as Constantinople and as far west as Newfoundland. They established commercial hubs in Dublin, Ireland, Aredeil, Scotland, and Kaupang, Norway, respectively. Slaves and walrus ivory were also commodities they bought and sold. Their art may be seen all throughout the British Isles and Scandinavia. In the late ninth century, the Vikings colonized Iceland, and by 1000 CE, Leif Erikson had arrived in America-500 years before Columbus set sail for the New World. Vikings also wore jewelry, which was often made of silver and gold. As a status symbol proclaiming one’s virility or sexual exploits, Viking jewelry is frequently portrayed as being worn by men in popular culture. But, in truth, both men and women Norsemen ornamented themselves with a variety of brooches, jewelry, pendants , bracelets, armlets and wrist cuffs.
